Microsoft Copilot Readiness for Nonprofits

Microsoft Copilot can be powerful for nonprofits already using Microsoft 365, but it should not be turned on before permissions, data locations and policies are reviewed. Copilot works best when your Microsoft environment is organized and secure.

Review permissions first

If old SharePoint sites, Teams channels or OneDrive folders are too open, AI-powered search and summaries may surface information to staff who should not see it. A permissions review is the first step.

Clean up files and data

Archive outdated files, standardize naming conventions and identify sensitive donor, client, finance and HR information. Copilot readiness is partly a data governance project.

Define safe use cases

Good early use cases include meeting summaries, first drafts, policy lookup, internal knowledge search and report outlines. Sensitive donor or client decisions should remain human-reviewed.

Train staff on verification

Copilot can help draft and summarize, but people still need to check facts, tone, privacy and context. Training should include examples of what to use, what to avoid and how to verify outputs.

TTS can help with rollout

We help nonprofits prepare Microsoft 365, create AI policies and roll out Copilot with practical workflows and safeguards.
